FASHIONCLASH, an international and interdisciplinary platform for ‘young’ designers and artists, is coming up! More than one hundred national and international talents will show their work during ‘FASHIONCLASH Maastricht’ from 31 May till 2 June. Every year we take a look: a unique opportunity to discover new talent, make contacts, and to get inspired by the art of fashion. You can already admire the work of Georgina Santiago, Yvonne Laufer, Ima Mad, Hana Frisonsova, Amit Baruch, Danielle Keller and Pierre Antoine Vettorello down below!

Upcoming weekend, on Saturday May 25 and Sunday May 26, Elle Decoration organized a gathering for its readers, and all other interested in design and interiors. The theme is ‘Green Factory’, refering to green as a color, living nature and bringing the outside-feeling in and vice versa. A couple of Dutch webshops open a pop-up store in ‘Toonkamer’, where you can see their goods in real and buy them when you fancy one or two.. Next to that, some brands like Weltevree and Dutch Hot Tub present their designs so you can experience them yourself! The style rooms are updated to the newest colors, furniture pieces and accesories! And after all, you can have a fancy meal, piece of cake, soup or what else, all freshly made by Utrecht based kitchens, like Broodnodig.

Co-Evolution

12 years ago, designers Kiki van Eijk en Joost van Bleiswijk started their studio in Eindhoven, where both Kiki + Joost graduated at the Design Academy. They run projects individually, but share the same space and facilities. Recently, Lecturis published a book about the works of the two leading Dutch designers. The publications shows various design methodologies and artistic principles, in a chronological way. We were lucky to get one hardcopy, designed by Studio AnthonBeeke in collaboration with Lidewij Edelkoort. Get yours here!

Copenhagen Photofestival

We are confronted with photography every day in the media, public space and in contemporary art. The Copenhagen Photo Festival wishes to enhance our awareness of what the photos surrounding us are based upon, what shapes them and what they are telling us. From June the 6th till the 16th the festival provides an international platform for contemporary photography in Copenhagen. A platform for theoretical discussions and presentation of new pieces, where the national and international art scene, the professional photo scene and young photo talents as well as the amateur photo-enthusiast can meet and explore contemporary photography. A good excuse to go to the creative capital of Denmark!

Todays Goosebumps: the series ‘Homes At Night’ by Todd Hido. This American contemporary artist and photographer is currently based in San Francisco. Much of Hido’s work involves urban and suburban housing across the U.S. Just like his ‘Homes At Night’, the series is highly detailed, have luminous colors and remember us of mysterious filmstills. The anonymity, isolation and the colors in the photographs fascinates us!

Variable Constant

Variable Constant is an ongoing project of the talented German photographer Julia Schiller. A series about the changing sky and the constant house. “I can capture it a thousand times, with each image leaving something uncovered, something that is missing, something that may only be sensed. Will I ever know what its original state was, how it appeared on its first day? How is it supposed to look like?” Day after day Schiller photographs this rooftop and none of the skies are the same. This trip goes to Russia! London-based photographer Richard Davies traveled since 2002 every year to the Russian North to find the epic, traditional wooden churches of Russia. Richard Davies’ photographic survey of Russian churches is a follow-up of the work of Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin, who had done a survey about one hundred years earlier. The wooden church, one of Russia’s unique architectural treasures, is in danger of extinction. Years of harsh weather, fires, war and neglect have costs a lot of churches. Today only 200 churches remain, and Davies hopes this series will help raise public awareness to save these buildings..

As a Mother of 4 kids, Belgian Caroline Bosmans has become passionate about children’s fashion. In her collections, she likes to play with the boundaries between boys and girls, loves graphic elements and takes pleasure in injecting humor into her creations. Graduate from the fashion department of SASK Sint-Niklaas, satisfied us today with her little monsters and humor. Her inspiration: in daily life, Caroline works as a therapist in psychiatric day care!

Conversation Piece

Conversation Piece started off in 2010 as an ongoing research project by Stockholm-based Beatrice Brovia and Nicolas Cheng. The project seeks for new scenarios, viewpoints and audiences for contemporary craft and jewelry. For example: jewelry don’t need to decorate only the body, they also can be functional or be a extension of the body. The design duo considers space itself as something to be adorned: doorknobs are sculpted like pieces of soap, fine silver sheets get subtly folded and placed on the floor, and sculptural jewelry pieces are showing the intersection between craftsmanship and cutting edge technologies.
